Musical Background

“I have been playing Guitar all my life, starting-up in the mid 1960s as guitarist and back-up singer in a teenage ‘beat’ band in my hometown in Germany.  We played songs from the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Animals, the Who, Kinks, and so on.

But I was also quite fascinated by the stories I heard, and the music played, by the big Swing bands like Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman in the 1940s.  As a guitar player, I particularly admired the clean sound and style of Jazz Guitar as played by the American guitarist Kenny Burrell, who quickly became my idol.

Later-on I discovered my interest in Blues and Bebop Jazz, and became intrigued by the sophistication of improvised music.  I attended the Open Academy of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, and also kept my connection to Europe by attending Jazz Schools in Germany and France.

Over the years, I was lucky enough to be able to perform on stage with a number of well known outstanding international performers and singers from all over the world.

But I particularly enjoy to get back to my musical roots and sing and play popular songs from the golden era of music when I grew up.”
